Every day is a New Day, do good things that keeps You happy. Following those Instincts, to allow You to have the Time of Your Life.
Living or visiting to a Foreign Country and not knowing or understanding their language can be hard. Especially when it is a time of need. Living on the sea would take You to those places known and unknown to Man.
We have been sailing 48hrs straight, with no rest trying to out run the weather, as we try to reach our destination before the deadline to leave the EU. If You know what I mean. 😦 The body & mind gets weary after so many hours not sleeping. No anchorages insight, restricted areas/ Fish stakes taking up most of the sea, what can us restless sailors to do?
In this situation, Instincts played an important role. We had left from Moraria Marina a one night stop, to rest our hungry eyes. Next day we left around 11:00 am low tides no winds. This was the begining of the next 48hrs non stop sail.
A must, to reach port in Cartagena before the storm comes. Sailing with Front GIB, was our only option. “The winds was in our favor the captain says” Thats my que to take the wheel, and sail our lady with love. Sunsets music playing, waves slowly rising, the wind begins to get stronger.
The captain said he was sure we would be able to sail all the way with the Front sail up. But my Instincts was feeling something different. How could I tell the captain what I felt, After he checked the weather and gave a thumbs up? Instincts are nagging me, this moment when It’s time to do or say something.
Calling for the Captain he is tucked in, inside the boat fast asleep. Should I wake him from dream land? Or wait a little while longer? Can’t bite my finger nails, that definately won’t help the situation. The winds became up to 20 knots, the Front sail must come down now. As I left the wheel to pull in the GiB out came the captain to take the wheel.
The rope on port side has tangel up into the fenders that we left laying down. ” ( Rule 3 not to do)” ohhh dear! The waves Bashing the boat, strong winds howling 1 hour before we reach Cartagena. Our used front sail began to ripp. I had to climb over 4 big fenders then set the rope free. Jump back into the cockpit and pull in the sail. Ok my heart start beating again, am alive. Captain smiling, Am like favorable winds huh? Just as my relief was about to enter my body.
Our Dinghy ropes got loosed and it started to fly up into the winds. Oh No not my ” Arne” I must save the Dinghy, it was holding onto only three ropes . Captain said he would do it, but my Instincts told me to go fast and catch my only Dinghy.
As I came up to the starbord side. As I reach the front of the mast a strong gush of wind came. I got low, layed on my back, turn on my led weight mode. I then slide down to the very front of the boat, hold onto the front mast grabbed on tight, brought myself up on my knees.
Waited for the right time, the wind break enough to stand on my feet to grab the flying Dinghy. Fighting with the winds for 10 minutes. Felt like forever to save our Dinghy, Got it tied back up and carefully made it back to the cockpit and glue my butt to the admiral seat.
Watching the waves splashing over the boat. Follow Your instincts no matter if you don’t see a way out.
